The last couple of Saturdays, we have somewhat started a donut tradition (I know, I know, really helping us with our eating goals, right?) Chris has been seeking out random hole-in-the-wall donut places around Columbus, and we’ve been trying them out!

A whole dozen. Why is this necessary? I guess to try out all the different kinds and compare… who knows why else TWO people need TWELVE donuts.

my donut lover....

So if you're in the area some Saturday, stop on by! I'm sure we'll have more than enough breakfast for everyone. *grin*

Ok, I know it's not the greatest pic, but here's me. I know some of the pieces are difficult to see. Apologies.

Project 31: Day 13

Day 13. Write about something you would like to change about yourself for the better.

For this day, I’d like to refer you back to one of my new year’s goals....Task One: Leave My Nails Alone.

And as an update...I’m failing miserably. My nails looked great until about the third week in January, and I bit them all off in one siting. Since then I haven’t even been able to get them grown back out again. Argh. Will this battle ever end?!?

Project 31: Day 12

Day 12. Write about what wears you out as a woman.

Two words: constant comparison. It seems to be something I can hardly escape. Whether it be comparing my looks to another, my abilities to another, or simply my life to another, it is just so dang tough. And it’s never satisfying. Never. So it’s forever a tight-rope walk of looking around me for inspiration, yet not letting that slip into the evil world of comparison.

Sorry so short today....I feel like I have a lot to do this week! Hope you all have a fantastic day!

2 c sugar
2 c brown sugar
4 eggs
2 tsp vanilla
4 c flour
5 c oatmeal (put small amt at a time in blender until it turns to powder)

2 tsp baking soda
24 oz choc chips
optional: (I never add these, but they’re on the recipe)
1 oz Hershey bar, grated
3 c nuts

Cream butter, sugar, brown sugar. Add eggs and vanilla. Mix together flour, oatmeal, salt, baking powder, baking soda. Add to creamed mixture. Add chocolate chips, Hershey bar, and nuts.

Project 31: Day 10

Day 10. What is Jesus teaching you as a wife, mom, or friend? (Or just woman in general?)

I have really felt led recently to work on my prayer life, which has always just been so-so. A few years back, something my brother said really stuck out to me--how often do we tell someone we’ll pray for them, and then totally fall through? It’s almost just a feel-good saying...”I’ll be praying for you.” So this has been something that I’ve strived for--to only tell someone I’ll pray for them if I truly mean that I will.

I’ve also set aside my lunch breaks to crochet and talk to Jesus. I have a short prayer list that I re-write each week so that it doesn’t get cumbersome and so I don’t get burnt out. So far, I can really sense the Lord blesses my efforts. I can truly say that it is through His strength that I’ve been able to give my prayer life the boost it needs. Thank you Lord!

All that said, please tell me how I can pray for you this week. You can count on me to lift your requests to the throne :)

rugs and Project 31

Yesterday, Kylee and I must have both been dreaming about Anthropologie...she'd like a new bedspread; I'd like a new rug. Ugh. A new rug, please. I hate the rug we have now. It bunches up under the coffee table, and zoe's teeth get caught in it when she chews her bone, so it's basically a mess.
If only I had an unlimited budget....here are some of my faves:

I think this one is my favorite:

And now onto Project 31....

Day 9. What virtues do you value in yourself?

I am bold. Sometimes this causes me trouble. But to focus on the positive, I will say that being bold helps me stay true to my beliefs. If I believe in something and am passionate about it, I most likely cannot be swayed.

I am determined. A stem off of my boldness. When I set my mind to something, I am going to do it. Most days, you can find me with my planner by my side, keeping a list of items I’d like to accomplish that day. I am determined to make each day count, whether that be checking a million items off my list, or taking a day of rest to rejuvenate my body and mind.

let's have some coffee and talk about life. image found via weheartit.com

I am a good listener. Sit down and talk to me about your life. I’d love to listen. Share your hopes, dreams, struggles, and passions. It never ceases to amaze me how people are so unique--we all have different sets of life skills, life experiences, and personalities that somehow make the world go ‘round.

I am caring. Again, a stem off of my listening skills. I can’t promise that I feel this 100% of the time (we all have our off days), but I genuinely care about people’s lives, situations, thoughts, and feelings. I hope and pray that when you talk to me, you feel cared about!! :)

Project 31: Day 8

Day 8. Have a beauty secret (e.g. hair tip, make up tip)? Share, please!

Olive oil. It's been in my shower for maybe two months now, and it has taken place of my shaving cream. I love so many things about this new discovery....

First, it's all natural. I'm really trying to move away from body products that are just riddled with perfume and ingredients that I can't even pronounce. Since the skin is the body's largest organ, I think it's pretty important what I put on mine. With olive oil, I know it's all good stuff.

Second, it's cheap. I know that olive oil in general may be on the pricier side. But if I had to guess, I'd say that in the last month, I've used maybe a tablespoon, give or take a bit. Not even close to what I was spending on shaving cream.

And finally, when I step out of the shower, I literally already feel like I've put lotion on my legs--they're that moisturized. Don't think slippery and oily. The oil absorbs into your skin and just feels nice and smooth. How's that for a time saver????

I don't really think it'd be fair if I didn't include my one semi-negative observation. And that is that my razor tends to get a bit more clogged. My easy solution is that after each leg, I hold the razor up to the shower head to get the highest water pressure and let the water unclog the razor. So far, it works like a charm and I haven't had to replace my razor any more often than usual.

Let me know if you try this and what you think!

Project 31: Day 6 & 7

Today, I’m combining two days. Hope that’s alright :)

Day 6. Jaded beauty. Has the world's definition of beauty ever jaded you?
Day 7. Write a blog to encourage another beautiful woman.

To answer the first, I’d give a big, fat, obvious, Yes. It is terribly sad how society and the media has created this cookie cutter image that defines what is beautiful, as if every person should measure up to that. It is so incredibly false, yet often times so hard to rise above and believe differently.

The simplicity of it, is that everything and everyone is beautiful.

So God created mankind in his own image,in the image of God he created
them;male and female he created them. Genesis 1:27

He has made everything beautiful in its time. he has made everything
beautiful. Ecclesiastes 3:11

Be encouraged, ladies. You are beautiful! You are just the way that God made you, and he is madly in love with you.

burping in style and other things.

Some babies spit up, some not so much. But in case Baby Girl Davis decides to make it a frequent thing, we'll be prepared, and she'll do it in style. I couldn't resist using Rachel's tutorial to make some of these pretties:

And I have to share with you the fun mail I've received lately...

Diaper covers for the little one. I actually can't wait to change her diaper! haha!

These beauties were my Great-Grandma's that my mom found going through some of her things. The bottom is a little apron that I can't wait to make into something for Baby Girl. Any ideas?

Hope you're all having a lovely week!

Project 31: Day5

Day 5. Write a blog thanking someone who has made your heart come alive.

I’m going to try not to sound too cliche here...but the one person in this world that has made my heart come alive would have to be my dear husband, Chris. In the eight years that I’ve been with Chris, he has taught me so much about life and myself. He has helped me see things more clearly and let go of things that may have previously weighed me down. He has taught me so much about true, unconditional love, and has loved me with that kind of love for as long as I’ve known him. He fulfills my needs, but steps back on the needs he knows that only God can fulfill. I could probably go on and on. Basically, I love this guy and my heart is filled with thankfulness that I get to call him my husband and my best friend.
being his goofy self...
